Are the New England Patriots the next NFL team to abandon natural grass on its playing field and install a synthetic surface? Reports out of Boston suggest that is indeed the case.

The Boston Herald reports that the NFL is not happy with the condition of the grass field at Gillette Stadium, Foxboro, MA, and has told the team to fix the field at the 68,000 seat facility that opened in 2002.

The team is reportedly considering installing a FieldTurf playing surface, says the newspaper. Eight NFL teams already play on FieldTurf. Another 21 NFL teams have synthetic turf practice fields.
